To do a quick recap, you won’t find anti-aging skincare products in Japan! What I mean is, the cosmetics industry has very tight regulations that prevent any manufacturer from advertising their product as “anti-aging.”
Instead, Japanese skincare products that deal with fine lines, wrinkles, and so on marketed as labeled “aging care” (エイジングケア | eijingu kea). Common ingredients include collagen and retinol/retinoids to temporarily restore elasticity, along with humectants like hyaluronic acid to moisturize.
This year, I’ve noticed several varieties of “aging care” sheet masks on the domestic market, and I’ve researched 10 anti-aging sheet masks from Japan to try. But, before we head to the list, here’s a bit about why masking is a skincare trend that’s here to stay.
The Benefits of Sheet Masking
Sheet masks were my gateway drug to K-beauty years ago! I love sheet masks simply because they’re a fun and fuss-free way to pamper yourself on a budget or when you’re limited on time. Sheet masks come packed individually or in bulk and are typically soaked in a serum to moisturize and nourish the skin.
Depending on the product, most sheet masks are suitable for daily use. However, others are best used as part of a weekly “repair”/deep care routine (like on #SelfcareSunday!). Here’s what to look out for:
Daily use masks come in bulk or in a package of 5~7 masks. Special care sheet masks typically come in individual packaging. OR, you’ll likely find them sold in a package of 4~10 masks with some interesting features. (ex. An extremely generous amount of essence; concentrated ingredients; 3D/special shape)

10 Anti-Aging Sheet Masks From Japan
1. 50 no Megumi Oil In Moist Lift Mask (Rohto)
I always forget that Rohto (a pharmaceutical company) has other skincare lines since I’m most familiar with their Melano CC series. 50 no Megami is their skincare and haircare line for a mature audience.
The lineup uses *50* different kinds of hydrating ingredients like shea butter, olive oil, and camellia oil. 50 no Megumi Oil In Moist Lift Mask is an all-in-one product and it’s ideal for daily use.

2. Princess Veil Aging Care Mask (Kose)
A entry-level sheet mask for anyone curious about adding aging care products to their skincare routine, Princess Veil Aging Care Mask is an attractive choice. It’s part of Kose’s Clear Turn Princess Veil series, and the packaging is bright and fun and would look cute on a dresser.

3. Clear Turn Ultra-concentrated Moisturizing Mask EX (Kose)
What I genuinely enjoy about Japanese skincare is the tendency to make all-in-one products. It’s like, “We see you. We know ain’t nobody got time for 5+ products everyday. Take this sheet mask/gel/cream and go to bed. Now.”
Kose Clear Turn Ultra-concentrated Moisturizing Mask EX is one of those multitasking products. It’s made of a soft, thick fabric packed with a milky serum that targets areas that show the first signs of aging.

4. Kracie Facial Mask 3D Aging Moisturizer (Hadabisei)
Suitable for dry skin, Kracie Facial Mask 3D Aging Moisturizer fits the curvature of the face, goes underneath the chin and also covers part of the neck! It uses a unique blend of star fruit, Coix seed extract, yuzu ceramide, calendula flower extract, glycerin and collagen to moisturize and firm skin. Each mask comes in an individual package containing 30mL of essence and is ideal for once a week masking.

Elixir Super Hair Lift Moist Mask W (Shiseido)
A revitalizing sheet mask from Shiseido’ high-end drugstore line (if that makes sense), Elixir Super Hair Lift Moist Mask W has a milky serum that does it all: lifts, smooths wrinkles, and firms the skin. Elixir Super Hair Lift Moist Mask W also improves skin cell turnover to even out skin tone. There’s six sheet masks in this package, and though the price point is on the higher end, these would be great for a pampering session.

6. Over 45 in Camellia Pink (Lululun)
Lululun Over 45 is the product lineup that piqued my interest in anti-aging sheet masks! Lululun, started in 2011 to bring cheer to young women across Japan. Now, Lululun is reaching out to a new demographic!
Camellia pink is modeled after the mature elegance of the tsubaki flower, which reaches full bloom in the wintertime. I have a few years before I reach its target demographic, but the reviews on Amazon Japan have been overwhelmingly positive. In fact, many mention that it delivers far more moisture than Lululun Precious Red. So, if you have severe dry skin, definitely give this one a try!

7. Premium Green (Lululun)
Lululun Precious are my favorite sheet masks because of their affordability and effectiveness. (If you haven’t read my review, it’s here.) Since September, I’ve been using Precious Green in my quest to deepen my knowledge of Japanese aging care products. Precious Green are 3-layer sheet masks soaked in an essence rich in L22, a patented ingredient that mimics the sebum balance of a 22 year old.

8. Premium Puresa Golden Jelly Mask Collagen (Utena)
Utena Premium Puresa Golden Jelly Mask Collagen differ from other sheet masks on this list because its serum is actually a jelly! These masks are very effective but they are incredibly messy. I only bother with them 1-2 times a month because the jelly gets everywhere.
On the plus side, there’s so much jelly leftover that I use it all over my body after taking a long soak in bath. Another way to boost its effectiveness is to pair this with a silicone sheet mask and really let all that goey collagen essence penetrate the skin.

9. Queen’s Premium Mask Ultra Moisturizing Mask (Quality First)
Queen’s Premium Mask Ultra Moisturizing Mask contains 30 ml of serum formulated with 5 different kinds of hyaluronic acid to nourish and lock-in moisture. Packaging normally doesn’t influence my purchase. However, but I l LOVE the luxurious design. This is an aging care mask that makes me feel like a rich socialite who has aged gracefully. A face mask containing a variety of luxuriously moisturizing ingredients in an ultra-thick, fluffy sheet.

10. Super Collagen Supreme Premium Sheet Mask (DHC)
One of the hallmarks of aging care products is the use of collagen to plump and smooth the skin. However, most collagen in skin care products don’t penetrate the layers of the skin because the molecules are too big.
