Busy Mama Essentials: 4 Refreshing Products From Japan

Here’s a look at the four Japanese products that give me a moment of zen in the chaos of moming, teaching, and freelancing.

Beat The Hectic Morning Rush: Saborino Morning Mask

My mornings are a frantic race against time as I answer emails, write the day’s to-dto lis, prep breakfast and dinner, do laundry, get dressed and ready for work, and nurse the baby.

No matter how early I wake up, I never seem to have enough time! That’s why these masks are perfect for busy mamas like me. All I need is 60 seconds to fit these into my morning routine.

How do morning masks work? Wake up and apply — that’s it! No need to wash your face or apply skin care products afterwards. Each mask functions as a skin cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. See more of my favorite morning sheet masks here.

Soothe Weary Eyes: Megrhythm Heated Eye Masks

I have a confession. My iPhone and iPad go everywhere with me. From checking my bus schedule, emailing clients, researching and writing articles, blogging, Instagramming, tweeting … the list goes on, but I’m always “on.” (Like right now, I’m writing this blog and emailing on the train ride home!)

These heated masks are very easy to use. Simply remove from the pouch, loop over your ears, slide the mask over your eyes, and you’re good to go.

I like to use them as I fall asleep. That way I can resist the temptation to check my phone. I turn on my playlist, nurse and snuggle with the monster. The fragrance releases as the mask warms up, and I think it also helps my girl fall asleep too.

The packaging says steam but they’re not overly hot. My baby can touch them without getting burned, although I advise that you don’t let your kids touch them!

Pamper Tired Legs And Feet: Kyuusoku Jikan Leg Sheets

Kyuusoku Jikan literally means “resting time for your legs” and this product lives up to its name! These patches were my everything throughout my pregnancy. Ever since then, I’ve been a fan. They’re a great way to unwind after a day out in the city. I also recommend these go in your carry-on if you’re flying, especially if it’s a long-haul flight.
A refreshing blend of rosemary, sage, lavender, lemon and orange, the scent is relaxing and not overpowering. Instant aromatherapy in a box!

The only downside is that these sheets quickly lose their stickiness, so be careful when you peel away the plastic backing. Once I stick them on my calf or underside of my foot, however, they will stay in place. Pair with these leg sheets with the Megrhythm heated eye masks, and it’s almost like I’m at a spa — until I hear the cries of a hungry baby!

Rejuvenating Bath Time: Bath Roman Spicy Herb Bath Salts

I know you might be wondering why I even bothered to add bath salts to a list of products for busy mamas. If you’re a mom, you barely have time to pee without an audience, let alone soak in the bathtub. And that’s exactly why I like this particular can of bath salts by Bath Roman.

When I take a bath with baby, I use Bath Roman’s shea butter formula. But, when I’m alone in the tub— which is like, twice a month at the most—, I almost always reach for Spicy Herb (we have four, yes four different Bath Roman salts in our bathroom cabinet).

Add two capfuls to bathwater, and it’s like I’m at an onsen (温泉/Japanese hot spring). I’ll just say that the tub smells exactly how you’d imagine a mixture of chilis, ginger, rosemary, yuzu, thyme, cloves, burdock root, and garlic to smell.
