Confession time: I never thought I’d be a self-gel nails gal. I mean, I tried after I had pretty much given up my monthly nail salon visit years ago. But, here we are, two campaigns deep with a Korean brand, and here’s why I’m obsessed with Ohora self gel nails.

What I love most about Ohora is how ridiculously easy it is. Just stick the semi-cured gel on, trim, cure under the lamp, and voilà — salon-worthy nails in under 30 minutes.
Self-Nails vs. Salon Nails — Let’s Get Real
I’ll always have love for salon nails (and Goldy Salon in Shinjuku will always have place in my heart)! There’s something luxurious about sinking into that leather chair, sipping tiny cups of tea, and letting a pro work their magic.
But, if we’re talking about everyday life, like juggling school runs, work deadlines, and trying to remember when you last had a real date night, self-nails win, hands down.
With Ohora, I can have fresh nails while running the washing machine or waiting for dinner to finish simmering.
No booking, no sitting around for two hours, and no panicking when I get an urgent call from school.
Plus, we’re talking about a cost of around ¥1,500–¥2,300 per box versus the ¥5,000–¥10,000 you’ll easily spend at a salon in Japan.
Of course, there are moments when a salon visit makes sense. For example, weddings, formal events, or when you just need some serious “me time.”
But, Ohora has become my go-to for everything in between. It’s the best of both worlds: chic, effortless, and budget-friendly.
What’s in the Box?

- Each Ohora kit comes with
4030 semi-cured gel stickers → enough for two full applications, even if you lose a few to, ahem, “learning moments.” (UV lamps are sold separately, or in bundles, but if you happen to have one on hand, that will do!) - Bonus: you get a mini nail file and wooden stick to help shape and seal.
Long-Lasting, Low-Effort Perfection
- Lasts up to 2 weeks → Perfect for dates, special occasions or pretending you have your life together.
- Easy application: stick, trim, cure under the lamp, done.
Compared to Daiso or random ¥300 nail stickers? There’s no contest. Ohora looks and lasts like a salon job.
Pro Tips for Flawless Application

While Ohora nails are beginner-friendly, I’ve learned a few tricks to make them last:
- Trim and buff your nails beforehand.
- Gently push back cuticles (no need to go full salon mode, just a little nudge).
- Make sure there are no gaps between the nail and sticker.
- After curing, finish with a good nail oil to nourish and seal.
- Prep matters. Gently buff your nails, trim, and push back cuticles before applying.
- Avoid gaps. Make sure the sticker fits snugly against the nail bed. Gaps can trap moisture and lead to Green Nail Syndrome (aka chloronychia), an infection that turns nails an unflattering green. Trust me, no one wants swamp nails.
- Seal the deal. Finish with nail oil to keep everything hydrated and polished.
Why You Need Ohora in Your Life
If you want to skip the salon and still flex gorgeous, long-lasting nails, Ohora is the brand to try.
- Easy to apply
- Affordable (two uses per box!)
- Durable
- So. Many. Cute. Shades.
Ready to glow up your nails? Trust me, you’ll be hooked!
