Pixi Beauty +C Vit Collection

Welcome back to my 3 part series review of Pixi Beauty! The second installment is all about the Pixi Beauty +C Vit Collection. (Read Part 2 here: Pixi Beauty #PixiPretties Palette Collection.)

These products were gifted to me by Pixi Beauty, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

About Pixi Beauty

Ever since I’ve seen fellow beauty bloggers raving about Pixi Glow Tonic, I’ve been keen to try Pixi Beauty for myself. The London-based brand launched 20 years ago, and Pixi Beauty is about enhancing one’s natural beauty through “youth enhancing multipurpose products.” What Pixi Beauty brings to the beauty sphere is quality makeup and skincare at affordable prices — and a good amount of its products are vegan and cruelty-free, too!

Over the summer, Pixi Beauty surprised me with a massive — and I do mean massive — #PixiPretties PR box. It was a very unexpected but much welcome surprise that was followed up by another package, the Pixi Beauty +C Vit Collection.

The Pixi Beauty +C Vit Collection consists of products that bridge the gap between skincare and makeup. Think of them as makeup that comes with some serious skin benefits. My set came with the following:

  1. Lip Balm: +C Vit Lip Brightener Lip Brightener

  2. Serum: +C Vit Priming Oil

  3. Under-eye Concealer: +C Vit UnderEye Brightener

  4. Primer: +C Vit Brightening Perfector

I personally don’t like the feeling of applying makeup i.e. foundation) directly to bare skin, so I was excitedly curious to find out what these vitamin C products could do for me.

The Importance of Vitamin C in Skincare

As its name implies, the Pixi Beauty +C Vit Collection uses — you guessed it — vitamin C.  A majority of my skincare posts here in The Beauty Files lean heavily into summer skincare and feature products formulated with Vitamin C. As an antioxidant, Vitamin C protects skin cells from damage caused by free radicals induced by UV exposure.  It also boosts the skin’s natural luminosity and tone by inhibiting melanin production, which helps to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation/brown spots.

As with many skincare products formulated with Vitamin C, the Pixi Beauty +C Vit Collection has a mild citrus scent.

Here’s the low-down on the Pixi Beauty +C Vit Collection:

Pixi Beauty +C Vit Collection

These are “[c]olor enhancers that treat with skin loving ingredients… [l]eaving you looking refreshed and glowing. Just what I want from my skincare (don’t we all?)!

+C Vit Priming Oil

A while back, I wrote a post detailing all the cringeworthy beauty mistakes I made in my 20s. Among them was my irrational fear of oil serums because I thought they’d exacerbate my oily skin condition. A decade after I began to take skincare seriously, I’m glad I got over my fear of oil serums because this thing is magic!

The +C Vit Priming Oil is a tri-phase oil that nourishes, energizes and balances to give the skin a radiant glow. It goes on watery yet leaves a light, dewy finish on the surface without any oily residue. I find that 1 dropper full of liquid is more than enough to prep and hydrate my skin without feeling any uncomfortable heaviness.

+C Vit UnderEye Brightener

I received the +C Vit UnderEye Brightener in Peach Flash and surprisingly enough, it was a perfect match for my complexion. This under-eye concealer eliminates darkness and blends in perfectly without giving an obvious “I have on concealer” appearance.

This is a product that I can use daily, either when doing a full face of makeup or a 5 minute face. With that said, I’m not a fan of the applicator (I think it releases too much product at once.) Instead, I prefer to dab a bit on the back of my hand, then gently pat under the eye and across the lid.

+C Vit Brightening Perfector

The +C Vit Brightening Perfector is a lightweight primer that “blurs and perfects to give skin a dewy radiant finish.” I didn’t expect its chalky, off-white appearance and was pleasantly relieved when the texture turned out to be a velvety smooth cream.

Brightening cosmetics, a staple of J-beauty (and K-beauty), tend to have a “tone up” effect that enhances the skin’s translucence. This can look very odd on medium to deep complexions. However, the  +C Vit Brightening Perfector gives my skin a subtle boost without any weird whitecast. Plus, there’s the added bonus of removing redness!

+C Vit Lip Brightener Lip Brightener

My gift box came with the +C Vit Lip Brightener Lip Brightener in Peach Pout. It’s a soft pink shade that adds a flirty hint of color to the lips. This weightless, nourishing balm provides intense moisture and shine. I prefer to use it at night to prevent my lips from drying out. It also does an excellent job of plumping the lips before applying lipstick.

Pixi Beauty +C Vit Collection — Final Thoughts

I finally got my hands on the Pixi Beauty +C Vit Collection, and I am absolutely hooked! I’m all about self-care though skincare with a healthy dab of preventative skin care. I think these multi-functional beauty products do a fantastic job of enhancing one’s natural beauty with minimal effort.

This is why I must confess that I find one major drawback to this collection, which is the lack of SPF and PA protection.

Quick recap: SPF, or “Sun Protection Factor” indicates how much protection a product offers against UVB light. PA is “Protection Grade of UVA rays”, which indicates how much protection a product offers against UVA light. It’s not uncommon for J-beauty makeup brands to offer both when it comes to lip balm, primer, and liquid/powder foundation.

The +C Vit Lip Brightener Lip Brightener and +C Vit Brightening Perfector have the potential to easily become must-haves for a 5 minute “wake up and makeup” look. As a primer, the +C Vit Brightening Perfector has a creamy texture with a glowing finish and I think reformulating it to add SPF/PA protection would not dramatically alter its texture.

With that said, the Pixi Beauty +C Vit Collection is a great first step for someone keen to try preventative skincare. Each product ranges from $18 to $24 USD and would compliment any existing skincare routine and/or and makeup collection.

Have you ever tried Pixi Beauty? What do you think of the Pixi Beauty Vitamin-C Collection? P.S. Stay tuned for my final installment in the Pixi Beauty series — the Pixi Ambassador Program!
